Kingston Evacuation Live: Bomb Threat Closes Wood Street Between Bentall Center and John Lewis

A bomb threat in Kingston has led to the closure of Wood Street in both directions and the evacuation of the area.

The Kingston City Council confirmed that the road was closed this morning (Oct 28) between the Bentall Center and John Lewis while Metropolitan Police officers investigate.

In a tweet, the council wrote: “Traffic police have closed Wood Street between the Bentall Center and John Lewis due to an incident.”

Police confirmed that a department store on the road had received a bomb threat and that the store had been evacuated.

There are several closures, including the Kingston Bridge, while officers search the facilities.

There have been reports of a large police presence with an eyewitness taking to Twitter and posting: “What’s going on in Kingston this morning? Wood Street closes and cops everywhere.”

The road is understood to be closed at 10.10 am and bus services 111, 216, 281, 411, 481 and X26 are being diverted.
