Aston Villa has completed its second summer signing with the arrival of Ollie Watkins from Brentford.
The forward becomes Villa’s club record transfer after a £ 28 million fee was agreed with Brentford, which could increase another £ 5 million with add-ons.
Watkins has put pen to paper on a five-year contract to meet with Dean Smith, the manager who brought him to the Bees from Exeter City in 2017.
“I am delighted, it has taken a long time to arrive,” he told Villa TV. “But now I’m excited and can’t wait to start. The fact that it’s a huge club, Dean sold it to me. I am definitely excited to be working with Dean again and can’t wait to get started. “

Watkins follows Matty Cash to usher Villa from the Championship. Full-back Cash joined from Nottingham Forest for an initial fee of £ 14 million last week.
Villa is targeting more additions with another striker and a new goalkeeper on the wish list with Bournemouth forward Josh King and Arsenal stopper Emilianio Martinez prominently displayed.
And fans are hoping more deals will be concluded soon. Here is a selection of responses to the arrival of Watkins:
Mark Walker: So #avfc, who’s next? King? Guardian? Let’s get going …
Evan Crotty: With the number of balls we put in the box, just focus on being a poacher, hopefully he can get into the double figures and it would be a great season for everyone … I’d like to see Josh King with him.
Matt Goode: We’re going to find Martinez and King.
Mylo: Let’s take Josh King through the gate and Martinez to Sheff Utd and then let’s go for an inch and one end later towards October.
Dhurambir Singh: The next king, please.
Jamie Ford: I need a high quality winger next, most of Watkins’ goals come from good centers.
Karl Frankham: I absolutely LOVE seeing the hate from other fans. A forward who understands Smith’s philosophy and style of play playing with a coach he likes and feels comfortable with … don’t underestimate him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Benrahma next.
Aston Villa Updates: Josh King or Martinez Up Next?
Lee Gibson: It’s great to see this agreement on the line. It was clearly goal number one and hopefully addresses the key issue of goals. However, there is more to do. Apparently after GK, winger and maybe another forward as well, but another creative midfielder wouldn’t be bad.
