Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out for Manchester City’s Saturday night Premier League game at home to Arsenal.

De Bruyne had to retire from the Belgian team after being substituted during the second half of last weekend’s 2-1 loss to England.

City manager Pep Guardiola doesn’t think the injury is too bad, but he’s not sure how long De Bruyne will be away.

“I don’t think it will be much, but the next matches I think it will be out,” Guardiola said. “But we will see day by day how it goes.

“I can not answer [exactly how many games De Bruyne will miss] Because I do not know.”

There was better news for City fans about forward Sergio Agüero, who is approaching a first appearance of the season after knee surgery.

“He is training well and we are happy,” Guardiola said. “Every team needs a striker and we’ve played without him the last two, three games [Gabriel Jesus is also out injured at present].

“He has been training well and we are happy to see him back on the field after a long, long time.”

Saturday’s game will again face Guardiola with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who was previously his assistant at City.

Their relationship has sometimes been classified as that of a master and his apprentice, but Arteta outpointed his former boss in last season’s FA Cup semi-final, then led the Gunners to a first trophy in three years.

Guardiola said: “Perhaps we should clarify first who is the teacher and who is the apprentice.

“All the people who know him, we had no doubts about what he is doing in a short period of time.

“He settled in very well and the way his team is playing at the moment is perfect for the quality they have.

“He was able to bring Arsenal back to the position they were in a long time ago. He is doing very well in all competitions. Mikel is a competitor and a fighter.

“All the people who love him, we are more than happy with what he is doing in London.”

Will Arsenal make a statement at Man City?

Mikel Arteta takes Arsenal to Manchester City on Saturday to face his mentor Pep Guardiola, but will the Gunners pull off a declaration win to underscore their improvement with him?

The former City manager Arteta has faced Guardiola and City twice in his short managerial career, losing 3-0 at the Etihad when the Premier League restarted in June and then notching a surprising 2-0 win at the semi-finals of the FA Cup. on the way to lift that trophy.

Former Arsenal striker and current Sky Sports expert Alan Smith has been impressed by Arteta’s work at the club since he took office last December and hopes that Arsenal will improve from eighth last season in the Premier League.

“I think Arsenal fans will be looking forward to this one,” Smith told the Pitch to Post Preview podcast. “More than a year ago, when going to the places of the great ones would have filled them with a little fear about whether they were going to be handed over, even ashamed.”

“But today, win, lose or draw, Arsenal fans are pretty confident that they will be prepared, organized and will give City a good game.”
