Rangers two-goal hero Kemar Roofe believes the strength of the Ibrox team is the “key” to their title challenge.

Steven Gerrard’s team fell 1-0 to Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday, after being eliminated from the Betfred Cup in the middle of the week.

However, the coach changes were key with Ianis Hagi impressing off the bench and Cedric Itten scoring to put the Rangers ahead.

Roofe took the other two in a 3-1 win and believes the impact players are having off the bench has been a key factor in establishing a 16-point lead.

Roofe told Rangers TV: “It was important because of the loss of the week, the loss hurt us.

“We had to make sure today to show character and fight and get all three points.

“It doesn’t matter if we score a goal, we just have to believe in ourselves that we are going to score.

“All the substitutes who came changed the game for us and that is the key of our team.

“The starting eleven does our best and then the guys coming in add more energy.

“They never dropped the standards and changed the game.”
