Cool Kemar Roofe insisted that his incredible hit from the midline meant as much as a touch.
The Rangers super submarine scored one of the club’s great European goals with his incredible 55-yard looper to clinch a vital 2-0 victory against Standard Liege in Belgium.
The hit was seen around the world and Gers boss Steven Gerrard claimed it was the best goal he had seen up close.
However, Roofe remained calm and insisted his sensational effort would have been just as special if he had thrown the ball up close.
The former Leeds and Anderlecht hit man said: “If the player says it must be a good goal.
“In the moment, you know what’s going on, but it’s one of those that you have to look back on to really understand what it’s like.
“It’s a good goal, but it doesn’t give you goals or extra points for scoring that. It’s still the same as a tap-in, but I’m obviously very happy.
“The message was to stretch the game a bit. It was difficult to run and even pass the ball in this field, so the logical thing was to get the ball in the air from the back of the defense, run and cause problems.
“That’s what I tried to do.”
Roofe was delighted to come off the bench and become a hero after battling injury issues that have hampered the start of his Rangers career.
He said: “You feel like you will never ever get back in shape and play again without pain.
“But now I’m back, I feel good and I feel strong. The medical team has worked very well with me and I am happy to be back ”.
Gers is flying behind wins against Celtic and Standard, but Roofe is already looking at Livingston on Sunday.
He said: “We need to rest and recover well, and bring our best game to Sunday, as we know it will be a difficult game.
“They took points away from us instead, so we know we have to get to 100 percent and get all three points.
“One of the hardest things in football is getting a good result and then backing it up in the next game.
“But, if we want to win things, that’s what we have to do. We have to dust off, forget about this game and be ready for Sunday. “
