Police are investigating a collision involving Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer, in which a cyclist was taken to hospital.
Starmer is believed to have been driving through northwest London around noon Sunday when the accident occurred in Kentish Town.
A spokesman for the opposition leader said he reported the incident to a police station shortly after and that he had contacted the person involved.
Starmer is not believed to have been injured in the accident and is said to have been driving his own vehicle at the time.
The Sun newspaper said a witness, IT developer Nicolas Janes, 39, heard a “loud bang” and then saw a cyclist on the sidewalk.
A Starmer spokesperson said: “Keir was involved in a minor car accident on Sunday.
“He spoke to an officer from the British Transport Police who attended the scene and exchanged details with the officer and the other individual involved.
“Keir remained at the scene until the ambulance arrived. Later that afternoon, he reported the incident to a police station in accordance with the law. Since the incident, Keir has also been in contact with the other person involved. “
Metropolitan police declined to confirm that Starmer was involved in the crash, but said the driver was not arrested.
The force said in a statement: “Police were alerted by LAS (London Ambulance Service) around 12.20 pm on Sunday 25 October about a report of a traffic collision between a cyclist and a car on Grafton Road, NW5 .
“The driver of the car stopped at the scene and exchanged details with the cyclist, but left before the officers arrived.
“The cyclist received a minor injury to his arm and LAS took him to hospital as a precaution.
“Later, the officers tried to contact the driver of the car and left a message advising him to report the matter to the police.
“The driver of the car subsequently went to a North London police station. He was not arrested or interviewed under warning.
“Officers from the Highway and Transportation Police Command are ongoing an investigation into the collision.”
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service added: “We were called yesterday (Sunday) at 12:08 pm to receive reports of a traffic collision involving a car and a bicyclist on Grafton Road, NW5.
“We sent an ambulance team to the scene. One person was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital ”.
