Kate Garraway has shared an emotional update on her husband Derek Draper while participating in the weekly caregiver applause event.
The husband of the Good Morning Britain host has been in the ICU since March after contracting coronavirus.
On Thursday night at 8 p.m., Kate and her children joined families across the country as they stood outside their home in support of NHS staff, and particularly those who cared for her husband and father Derek in Hospital.
Kate, 52, was seen on camera for the first time in weeks as she enthusiastically tapped a saucepan and gave the camera a warm smile.
After sharing the video on Instagram, Kate said, “Much to be thankful for tonight. Derek is still with us, but what a battle it is.
“I am also so grateful for our amazing #nhs who do so much for Derek every day; it is wonderful to see all the support for them and our key workers every Thursday.
“We can’t thank them enough, can we? So brave.
“Send love to everyone during this horrible time, particularly to all those who struggle for whatever reason, none of this is easy.
“Thank you very much for your messages, they mean a lot to me. Love and thank you very much from me and the whole family. X # stay positive # hope # stand up # nhs”
Kate previously described her current situation as “the most difficult time of her life” while caring for children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 10, at home, while Derek remains seriously ill in hospital.
The presenter has been married to Derek since 2004 and admitted that she was doing her best to stay strong for her family.
“Of course, there are times when I feel exhausted to the bone and just have to rest, but that’s okay, too.”
“This is an absolutely heartbreaking and emotionally draining time for many of us,” explained Kate.
“And of course, I’m hugging the kids, whether they like it or not, and caring for them is, of course, a priority.”
Kate has been inundated with the support of her Good Morning Britain family and viewers who have been waiting for Derek to get better.
Earlier this week, the TV star sincerely thanked her “wonderful” fans as they lit candles for her husband Derek.
Good Morning, 52-year-old British Kate has kept her GMB supporters and colleagues updated on Derek’s condition since he was admitted to the UCI on March 30 to combat the fatal error.
