Kate Garraway hopes Derek Draper can hear his applause for caregivers on FaceTime at the hospital

Kate Garraway spoke hopefully to her husband Derek Draper in intensive care while applauding the caregivers.

She said she believed he could hear her during her FaceTime call from her hospital bed on Thursday night.

The Good Morning Britain presenter looked lively and joyous after she and her family have struggled through a rough few weeks as Derek battles the deadly virus.

Although she was speaking to her love, loyal Kate did not miss joining the rest of the nation for the weekly applause for caregivers.

The mother of two bundled up in a padded jacket and boots as temperatures chilled at night.

She has opened up about how she has endured the most difficult last few weeks of her life in recent times.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has been unable to see her husband as he fights for his life against coronavirus in the ICU.

But Kate shared her absolute delight with FaceTime her husband for the first time since he entered the hospital.

Her son William could be seen playing with Lego in the video that accompanied Kate’s moving update.

She shared her joy at her love for being able to “listen” to her family.

The Good Morning Britain presenter looked lively and overjoyed as she spoke to her husband.

In his long message, he wrote, “So our #nhsclap was a little different tonight. We still applauded and applauded as much as ever, but I couldn’t film on my phone like Derek had done on FaceTime all along. Of course I did. We can “I don’t know, but I think he can hear us and I thought that at least the incredible team of @nhs who cares for him would hear a fraction of our gratitude.”

Kate proudly showed off the superheroes Lego had made to thank her father’s caretakers.

She added: “Billy did this for his dad’s caregivers to show how much he means to our family and thank him for fighting to bring him back with us.”

Although she was speaking to her love, loyal Kate didn’t miss out on joining the rest of the nation for the weekly applause for caregivers.

Derek has been seriously ill with coronavirus in the past few weeks.

It has become an honorary routine for the nation to applaud NHS caregivers and staff on Thursdays.

But Kate insisted that the applause on Thursday night proved to be incredibly moving for her as her husband fights for his life in the ICU.

His family has been eagerly waiting for good news since Derek was admitted to the hospital in late March.

The newsreader revealed that her husband was in a coma and was not responding after being admitted to the ICU.

Kate gave up her television duties on Good Morning Britain while staying home with her children Darcey, 14, and William.

Kate and Derek were married in a romantic ceremony in 2005.

Their love story has blossomed with the couple raising their two children together at home.
