Jürgen Klopp believes that the Premier League should avoid implementing a “circuit breaker” closure designed to control the growing number of Covid-19 cases in clubs, if possible.
“I believe the competition can continue,” said the Liverpool manager, presumably aware of the severe match congestion that would be an inevitable consequence of such a suspension. “And it is also important that it continues. People want to see it, and in this case, we are not part of society.
“We go to training ground and things like that, but usually we isolate ourselves. We try to do everything we can to keep the kids as safe as possible, so I think we can really continue. We all try to do our best to stay competitive. I think it works well for everyone, but I’m not a [medical] specialist and I will respect all the decisions made in the coming weeks ”.
The realist at Klopp always expected an increase in the coronavirus within clubs at this time of year. “We knew that before winter there would probably be a second wave,” he said. “It’s a challenge when it comes to self-isolation, so I’m not surprised the numbers have gone up slightly in football.”
Klopp has advised patience regarding Virgil van Dijk’s return from anterior cruciate ligament surgery. The center is in Dubai undergoing rehabilitation after surgery in October and the club has sent a physiotherapist to the United Arab Emirates to work individually with him.
Van Dijk recently posted videos of his stationary bike in the gym, showing that he has reached the milestone of being able to bend the knee again, but Klopp warned there was a long way to go. “Progress is good, but there is still a long way to go. I can be happy when I watch these videos because it shows that we are progressing well, but, with these types of injuries, it will still take a long time. I would like to say something else, but these are the facts. “
