JURGEN KLOPP led a cheeky taunt at Manchester United after Liverpool were crowned Team of the Year at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

The Reds lifted their first Premier League title last season, claiming a record 99 points after losing just three games and finishing 18 points clear of second place Manchester City.

Sunday’s SPOTY was held at a television studio in Manchester due to coronavirus restrictions.

And Klopp joked at the expense of fierce rival United when he accepted Liverpool’s Team of the Year award.

The German joked: “Getting this award in Manchester, by the way, makes it even sweeter!”

He said before: “First and foremost, I have to say that every team that I saw now in the short summary would have absolutely deserved it.

“But I think my team deserves it, they did an incredible job. It’s a mix of talent, character, desire and the power of the club, which is really important.

“All of that comes together and we become champions. To be honest, it was a great moment.

“[Celebrating with fans?] We can wait for them! We do what we can to save time until they return.

“We said it before, we want to throw a big, big party the moment it is allowed again.

“It seems like it will take a little time. We’ll see, maybe we can win something sooner and we have two things to celebrate.

“But if not, the only thing we won last year we will celebrate for sure. We can’t wait to see you again. “

There was another win for Klopp on the night, as he was also crowned Coach of the Year.

He added: “My coaching team is obviously the main reason that all things work the way they work.

“It’s really good. On behalf of my coaches I accept it and take it home to Liverpool. Thank you very much.”

Marcus Rashford says he feels like he started his life at a disadvantage and that is why helping people is so important to him.
