Jurgen Klopp says he understands how Liverpool’s results this calendar year could have led to some doubts about his capabilities.
But the Reds boss feels the majority of the club’s fan base agrees that a crippling injury crisis and a lack of supporters within Anfield are the main factors behind a disastrous post-Christmas streak.
Liverpool fell to their fifth straight loss at home on Thursday night when they lost 1-0 to Chelsea to drop to seventh in the Premier League.
It is the first time the Reds have lost five straight games at Anfield and are without a goal in open play since December 27, which is more than 10 hours of football.
Klopp admits that the results alone may make it easier for some fans to question progress, but the German is confident that he retains the full backing of the club’s fans.
“It’s easy to believe when it’s going well, but right now, like I said, I can’t really tell people right now what they should be thinking,” Klopp said.
“At that moment when I said [turning doubters intro believers], it was not my decision whether people wanted to follow him or not.
“If you want to doubt [the coaching staff] and not the team, if you want to doubt me right now, then I think it’s possible because of the results we got
“As I understand it, if you are really with us, you judge our situation well and see that this is a really difficult year in which the unit could show itself in an even more special way.
“And I’m pretty sure if our stadium was full right now, most people would like the game and when we lose, the next game would be there, full of faith, full of positivity, and full of optimism because they know these. Guys didn’t change, the situation changed dramatically.
“The reason for our situation is the injuries we have had, definitely.

“But last night we had a really good team on the field against another really good team and you can always lose those kinds of games, that’s for sure.
“In the decisive moments you have to be better than them but we were not last night.
“It doesn’t say much about our players in general. It says a lot about the situation, but not about the guys in general.
“Again, if someone wants to doubt us, I can’t change that, obviously, but if someone wants to wish us well again and in the future, then they are welcome.”
Liverpool will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Fulham.
