Jurgen Klopp says the signing of Thiago Alcantara will add a different dimension to Liverpool’s midfield this season.
The Reds confirmed the arrival of the Spanish international from Bayern Munich on Friday after opening talks on a £ 20 million deal with the European champions on Monday.
After Bayern made it clear that they wanted a solution to the situation before their Bundesliga campaign began on Friday night, discussions accelerated between the two European giants.
Liverpool will pay an additional £ 5 million in add-ons for the 29-year-old midfielder who comes to Anfield and is seen by many as one of the most well-rounded players in his position on the continent.
Club insiders are believed to be delighted to have signed a two-time Champions League champion at the peak of his powers for such a relatively modest fee and Bayern were also happy to conclude the negotiations given that Thiago was in the last year of his contract in Bavaria. .
Klopp described the new No. 6 as “absolutely exceptional” and said the move was win-win for all parties.
“It’s quite simple, he is, and no one would see him otherwise, an absolutely exceptional player,” Klopp said.
“It’s difficult, and we said it last year as we said it this year, to improve a team like us right now in a normal way.
“Again, it’s nothing with other teams, but if you take £ 300 or £ 400 million then we can find some players [to improve], but still not easy.
“In this specific case, it’s a [Liverpool] player because he brings a different dimension to our game, that’s true.
“He has some skills that are generally quite rare, but they suit us quite well. So it doesn’t mean he says anything about the other players, he’s just different and of course that’s what interested me a lot.

“But other than that, he was also very excited about the opportunity, so it didn’t take a lot of conviction and that also helps if someone really wants to be part of a specific project, that’s good.
“So all the things came together and that’s what I would say is a win-win situation and I’m very happy that we could do it.”
Despite having a total of nine central midfielders now at the club, Klopp insists he is not concerned about players being unhappy about the lack of playing time this season.
The Liverpool manager says the crowded one-season match schedule that began a month after last year means rotation will be an inevitable feature of the Reds’ title defense.
“You can’t all play at the same time, that’s true, but you can’t keep one player happy by yourself,” Klopp added. “I’m not worried about it.
“If we have more than three midfielders, for example, and we play 4-3-3, then a couple of players won’t start or come in, that’s always the case.
“Some do not have the opportunity to enter and that is the squad for a match day, that’s right.
“But my job is to show the players how important they are at almost all times. In training, in the lineup, on the bench or a week later in the same situation.
“I can’t prepare for a normal season when a season is not normal. That just doesn’t work.
“And I repeat now, we don’t have a chance to change five times, so we have to find other ways to make sure the players are as fresh as possible. That probably means rotation.”
“I’m not saying we play on Sunday, we play like that, on Monday like that … I have no idea who will play.
“I have an idea for Sunday (against Chelsea) but not for the other games. If everyone is fit, the rotation is absolutely necessary because it just doesn’t work any other way.
“International players, until next window, England will play three games in October, so obviously some games there as well. We just have to try to make sure we can deal with this situation.
“So yeah, I want my players happy, but we can’t make them happy. They are a big part of that too.”
