Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Nat Phillips is missing to Chelsea due to injury.

The Reds have suffered incredible luck with injuries this season and now Philips is the last man to be ruled out.

The 23-year-old impressed against Sheffield United on Sunday, but has been replaced by Fabinho in the XI to face Thomas Tuchel’s side, with Klopp confirming that Phillips’ absence is due to injury.

“In general, if you have options, it makes you stronger, but the players always come back, when they are back on the bench and they are no longer injured. This is good and we have to make sure that we try to use them as soon as possible, “Klopp told Sky Sports before the start.

“With Fab, it was necessary because Nat is out, but it’s brilliant news.”

Fabinho had missed six weeks of action, but his return to the fold comes at the perfect time, given Phillips’ injury.

Klopp had hinted that the Brazilian could be used again in midfield, but with Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson and now Phillips out, the Liverpool manager was left with few options.

“Both (roles) are possible. This is true. It’s good, it gives us options at different times, ”Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“If we can find a way to bring Fab back to midfield, in some games he will be of great help.

“The most consistent player this season is Gini Wijnaldum. Let it continue for a long time. Play all six, but play practically all of these positions.

“But with Fab in all six, in some games he would be absolutely useful, so we’ll see.”
