Jurgen Klopp has explained how Liverpool have to take care of Joel Matip through a series of injury problems this season.
The Reds are waiting to determine the extent of Matip’s latest setback after the center-back limped out of Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw at home to West Bromwich Albion with a suspected adductor problem.
Matip has missed almost half of Liverpool’s campaign in the top flight this season due to a series of complaints, the most recent of which was a back problem that forced him to leave Fulham during halftime and marked him for the victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
With Liverpool already without center-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez due to long-term knee problems, Klopp cannot afford to be without Matip for a significant period.
And of the Cameroonian’s fitness problems, Klopp said: “It’s like a ‘wandering’ injury.
“He had a problem with his ankle, but he could keep playing. Then he had a back problem.
“Everybody knows that he would limp once in a while and then he had a back problem (that’s why).
“We worked on that, on both (injuries), and now he has an adductor (injury).”

Matip is a big doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday, with Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips vying for a potential role alongside Fabinho at center-back.
And speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Klopp added: “We’ll see. I hope it’s not too serious, but of course three days until Newcastle is around.”
“It was pretty good (against West Brom) and it would have been good if he could keep playing.”
