José Mourinho’s decision to criticize his Tottenham players in an Instagram post was called ‘childish’ by Martin Keown.
The Spurs manager used social media to tell his team that they can expect to be training Friday morning for the way they lost 1-0 to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League.
It was a mediocre performance by the north London club and Mourinho let the whole world know that he was not happy.
He wrote: “Bad performances deserve bad results. I hope everyone on this bus is as upset as I am. Training tomorrow at 11AM “.
The defeat meant Mourinho lost a 12-game unbeaten streak in the Europa League and a perfect record in away games this season.
But talkSPORT co-host Keown said the Tottenham manager shouldn’t post things like that.
“I am not happy with Mourinho being so public. Save it for the locker room, ”he told BT Sport.
“Is this how we are going to communicate [over Instagram]? If you’re going to talk to me, speak to my face. Do not post.
“Keep it at home, it’s a bit childish what you’re hearing. Players must keep their mouths open, but he can say what he wants publicly. I’d rather have it in the locker room. I’m not sure it’s healthy. “
Mourinho was clearly unhappy with his team’s display and knocked out four players at halftime, but that still wasn’t enough to turn things around.
Dele Alli was one of the players retired at halftime but Mourinho refused to point to anyone.
While speaking to the press, he said: “I don’t want to analyze individually. It’s fair to say that players with poor performances influence the team, but also a team influences individual performances.
“It is not my job to identify and put some names on the table. You can do it yourself. You always tell me ‘why isn’t this player playing, why isn’t this player playing’; you may not ask me that for a few weeks, since you have the answer.
“You know who our best team is. I always like to think that players deserve a chance. We have a great squad with many good players.
“It is my responsibility to give them opportunities, but it is also their opportunity to seize the opportunity with both hands and ask for more. Tonight shows that my future choices will be very easy. “
