Arsenal remain interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
The midfielder has made three Premier League appearances this season, scoring three goals, scoring two penalties in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Gunners coach Mikel Arteta was Pep Guardiola’s assistant when Manchester City came close to signing Jorginho from Napoli in 2018.
However, the Italian international appears to be part of Frank Lampard’s plans at Chelsea, and has captained the team in both of their Premier League games at the start of the season.
Arsenal’s chances of the Gunners signing Lyon’s Houssem Aouar are dwindling after he was named to their squad for Sunday’s game against Marseille, with several reports in France claiming that the Ligue 1 club will not sell to Aouar in this transfer window.
They have had an offer rejected at this window and Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas described the offer as “timid”.
Atlético de Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is another player Arsenal are interested in, but the Spanish club is unwilling to negotiate his £ 45m buyout clause.
Partey started Atlético’s 0-0 draw against Villarreal on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Lucas Torreira is close to completing a one-season loan from Arsenal to Atlético de Madrid.
Marseille are interested in Matteo Guendouzi and Bayer Leverkusen are in talks with the Gunners to sign Sead Kolasinac.
Arsenal feel they have a strong team, but remain on the market if the right player and the right treatment are presented.
Speaking before Arsenal’s game against Sheffield United on Super Sunday, live Sky sportsMikel Arteta said that the time remaining before the transfer deadline is “crucial”, revealing that there may be entries and exits at the club before 11pm on 5 October.
“We need to make some decisions in the next three days. Everything has been delayed so long, not just for us but for all teams,” he said.
“We will try to make the best possible decisions and in the end, whatever we have, we are going for it fully convinced and prepared to have a good season.”
