Joe Cole makes a U-turn to Frank Lampard and insists Chelsea can win the Premier League title

Joe Cole wasn’t always convinced that Frank Lampard would become a coach, but now he believes he can win the title.

Cole shared a dressing room with Lampard during their glory days together at Stamford Bridge and has seen him mature from “silent leader” to top-flight boss at Chelsea.

Lampard’s men are on a 15-match unbeaten streak, are third in the Premier League, two points off the top and have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League and Cole thinks they can win the lot.

Chelsea legend Cole, 39, said: “Looking back now, I can say yes, of course I was going to be a manager. But at the moment, no. You would have said other players.

“Frank didn’t speak, he led by example, and he was a silent leader. He spoke, but not like some of the others.

“If you had said who would come into management first, Didier Drogba, John Terry and Michael Ballack would have said.

Lampard is doing an impressive job at Stamford Bridge

“But now you see all the attributes: intelligence, man management, he’s so eloquent and ticks all the boxes. I’m not at all surprised at how well he’s doing.

“Frank won’t thank me for saying this, but they can win it all.

“If you’re Arsenal, you can’t win the league. Neither can Leicester. Chelsea are in the mix of three or four teams that can win the Premier League and five or six that can win the Champions League.

Cole thinks current Chelsea can get the silver

“It is a better team than when they won the Champions League in 2012. Frank is building a better team and that is a great credit to him.

“They look like a team, they have the makings of a great team.

“I can see the Premier League winner coming from Chelsea, Spurs or Liverpool.

“Chelsea have a great opportunity. They will be there or there. I can’t say for sure that they will, but in my opinion there are as good as the other two.”

“It will be one of those three.”

Cole believes the true litmus test of Lampard’s management was the way he was able to make nine changes for the Champions League trip to Seville, bring in Olivier Giroud and still score a famous European victory.

And Cole believes Giroud’s form will haunt Arsenal for letting him go.

“Frank is so motivated and so focused. Chelsea are a difficult club to manage, they have done it the right way, they cut their teeth at the Derby and they were not wrong, “said Cole.

“His victory at Sevilla was brilliant. You had a lot of players coming in, you have to keep them happy and Frank is clearly doing it. That is really good management.

Giroud is outstanding. Some people at Arsenal behind the scenes have to be responsible for letting it go. Was it age? But then they signed Willian and David Luiz.

“He is a brilliant player, he went to Arsenal, now he is to Chelsea and he is a model professional, a coach’s dream.”

Cole believes that it is time that, before fans return to the stadiums this weekend, soccer begins to appreciate and appreciate fans more in the future.

Cole added: “We have learned how important fans are. You expect it to be reflected in the ticket prices, the experience of the fans in the stadium, but you also look at the poll and three out of four affect their enjoyment.

“Soccer can be a respite, but you have work, the children and it is difficult to balance everything.”
