President-elect Joe Biden broke his foot while playing with one of his dogs and will likely need to wear a boot for several weeks, his doctor said.
Biden visited an orthopedist in Newark, Delaware, on Sunday afternoon after sustaining the injury the day before.
A CT scan found tiny fractures of two small bones in the middle of her right foot, her doctor Kevin O’Connor said in a statement.
“It is anticipated that you will probably need a walking boot for several weeks,” O’Connor added.
Later, the Democrat’s political opponent, Donald Trump, tweeted him to say “Get well soon,” in a move considered surprising by some.
Biden was seen limping as he left the doctor’s office for his CT scan, although he did not use crutches or help walking.
Wearing a mask and casual clothing, he appeared in a good mood as he greeted reporters.
The president-elect was playing with his dog, Major, when he suffered the injury.
Major was adopted from a rescue center in 2018, which means January will be the first rescue dog live in the White House.
The Bidens also have another dog, Champ, and have said they plan to have a cat.
At 78, Biden will be the oldest president when he takes office in January, though he has often ignored questions about his age.
In a medical report released last year, he was described as “healthy, vigorous” and “fit for the successful performance of the presidency.”
