The first lady, Jill Biden, will make her own story if her plans to continue teaching are fulfilled: She will be the first lady to hold a full-time job.
During President-elect Joe Biden’s eight years as Vice President, Dr. Biden was a full-time professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College, serving the area across the Potomac River from Washington, DC.
“If we make it to the White House, I will continue to teach,” Dr. Biden told CBS in August. “It’s important and I want people to value teachers and know their contributions, and elevate the profession.”

She delivered her speech at the Brandywine High School Democratic National Convention in Wilmington, Delaware in the same classroom where she used to teach.

In the past, First Ladies have been criticized for being too picky about policies, like Hillary Clinton leading the health care reform effort of her husband’s administration.
First lady Melania Trump drew attention when she decided not to move in the White House immediately when President Donald Trump took office in January 2017.
Instead, he stayed at the couple’s New York City apartment in Trump Tower so their son Barron could finish the school year.
Biden put her identity as an educator front and center in her speech at the Democratic National Convention in August.
He filmed it in his old classroom at Brandywine High School in Wilmington, Delaware.
‘Teaching is not what I do. It’s who I am, ” he tweeted, previewing his speech.
In NOVA, Biden would use the nickname ‘Dr. B, ‘to hide his identity a bit, according to a Washington Post report.
He told his Secret Service agents to dress like students.
During his first year at the school he taught English as a second language.
The Post reported that Biden was so moved by the stories her students shared with her that she wrote them on Post-it notes and left them for the vice president to see.
After that, Biden taught freshman composition and English development, which helps propel students with writing difficulties up to college level.
He has a Ph.D. in education from the University of Delaware.
Biden took time off from teaching while her husband was running for president.
