Jason Manford has revealed that his application to work as a driver for his local Tesco supermarket has been rejected.
The 38-year-old comedian said he was “furious” that the store had rejected his request and admitted that “he was just trying to do his part” amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The star’s post, which appeared to be a joke, also included a screenshot of the email he received informing him that his request would not be pursued.

The email read: ‘Hello Jason, we appreciate your interest in working for Tesco during these unprecedented times and we appreciate your request for the Customer Service Assistant – Convenience.
‘Unfortunately, we are unable to advance your application this time, as the vacancy is closed. Unfortunately, due to such a high volume of applications, we are unable to provide detailed feedback.
“If you are interested in other opportunities at Tesco, or would like to stay informed about future jobs that might be right for you, keep your Tesco Career Center up to date.”

Jason had applied for a position at the Alderley Road Express in Wilmslow, which is home to his Cheshire home, where he lives with his wife Lucy Dyke and their children.
In response to the rejection, he posted on Instagram: ‘Absolutely livid Tesco. I was just trying to do my part.
He joked that he will monitor the new employee and said, “I hope the best person has and enjoys the job, I will be watching him.”
Tesco responded to Jason after his social media posts and stated that he was rejected because he did not meet the application deadline.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We have recruited some 50,000 temporary workers during the Coronavirus pandemic and they have played an important role in helping us serve customers safely during these unprecedented times.
‘Jason’s skills would certainly have brought a lot of joy to our clients and colleagues, so it is a shame that he did not meet the deadline for this vacancy. But if he ever wanted to join the Tesco family in the future, we’d be happy to receive a request from him. ”
Jason later defended his position after people accused him of “taking the p ** s” when applying for a job at his local supermarket.
He said: ‘Some people thought I was taking the p ** s, being insensitive, or making up about my previous message about being turned down for a job as a Tesco driver.
Wrestling: Last month, Jason admitted that he burst into tears at the thought of having to learn to be a “full-time father” again in the running of the bulls, speaking during an appearance on The Steph Show.
‘I applied 7 weeks ago when I thought, like everyone else, that it was basically wartime and that it would require all hands on deck.
‘The curtains were canceled on the 16th and I applied for the 21st for quite a few jobs). Since then, I have managed to fill my ‘free time’ by driving voluntarily (this is not ‘signaling virtue’, just defending myself!) He opened up his fears of introducing Steph McGovern on The Steph Show on Channel 4, admitting that his emotional moment was sparked by the cancellation of his tour due to the coronavirus crisis.
The star has three children with his first wife, Catherine, and two young children with the wife of television producer Lucy Dyke, whom he married in 2017.
Jason said: ‘At first I was worried because I was supposed to be on tour and everything was canceled.
“ I was driving home from Leicester and had been doing eight shows a week and had been on tour since September, and I had a moment when I cried a little bit in the car with concern about the situation, but also thinking I’m going to have to retrain me to be a full-time parent when I return.
‘Because I’m not doing that. I’ve been a bit of the old bread winner, going out and putting dinner on the table.

‘Coming home and doing home schooling and cooking and discovering your friends … is a totally different world.

Despite initially worrying that there would be a ‘divorce boom’ rather than a ‘baby boom’ in the running of the bulls, Jason confessed that he has been appreciating every moment he spends with his loved ones.
“We really had a great time,” he enthused, admitting that being locked up together wasn’t entirely bad.
Jason also revealed that he took a mortgage vacation, describing it as “one of the worst vacations I have ever had.”
During his appearance on The Steph Show, it was also revealed that the comedian recently came to the rescue of a needy teacher.
He explained: ‘We have all had the rug pulled out from under us. Whatever situation you’re in, it’s totally different than it was a month ago.
After seeing the plight of elementary school teacher Jenny Williams who had her bike stolen, Manford bought her a new bike.
He said, ‘I’m a little embarrassed to tell you that story. I saw him on Facebook, he needed a new bike, so I bought him one so I could teach the children of key workers. ”
Jenny Williams thanked the comedian and musical theater star, saying, “ A huge thanks to Jason for restoring not only my faith in humanity, but also giving children a story of real-life heroes.
‘Your generosity has lifted my spirits and I feel very fortunate to be able to continue cycling to work and supporting key workers at this critical time. Rest assured that the bicycle will remain locked at all times.
