Jan Vertonghen drives Tottenham fans crazy after delivering his verdict on the Europa League draw

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen will return to North London this year.

The 33-year-old, who left Spurs on a free transfer last summer, has seen his new club, Benfica, draw Arsenal in the Europa League round of 32.

Benfica advanced to this stage of the competition by finishing as Rangers runners-up in Group D, but remained undefeated, winning three and drawing three of their six games.

Vertonghen was present in the group stage and opened his account for the Portuguese side with a goal in a 4-0 win over Lech Poznan on matchday five.

Barring injury or loss of form, Vertongthen is expected to be in the fight when Benfica host the Gunners on February 18, as well as the return leg at Emirates Stadium a week later.

Given his ties to the Lilywhites, it’s no wonder there is a great deal of support coming his way.

As soon as the draw was complete, Spurs supporters flooded social media immediately, trolling Arsenal and their fans, suggesting that Vertonghen will be Benfica’s hero and knock them out of the competition.

And the Belgian has apparently delivered his verdict on the possibility.

Discovered by Spurs fans on Reddit, the defender has ‘Liked’ two posts on Twitter with regard to the knockout round of the last 32 that takes place in February.

“Come on @JanVertonghen, you know what to do when you get back to North London.”

Hearing about Vertonghen’s excitement to return to North London in the new year, some Spurs fans on Reddit are predicting special things from the defender.
