Jamie Carragher Responds To Jurgen Klopp On Liverpool Transfer Error Comments

Jamie Carragher responded to Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool manager objected to comments made about the Reds’ defensive woes.

Liverpool have come up short as a central defender with Virgil van Dijk facing months out with an ACL problem and Joel Matip missed the trip to Ajax with a blow.

That means Joe Gomez is Liverpool’s only senior central defender and midfielder Fabinho is expected to take his place alongside him at the heart of the Reds defense.

Liverpool also have youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips as options, but decided not to replace Dejan Lovren when he left for Zenit in the summer.

Klopp rejected suggestions that Liverpool had made a mistake in the transfer market and named Jamie Carragher for suggesting that the Reds had.

“Yeah, we go into the season with three center-backs and Fabinho as a cover. And some little kids as a cover. It’s usually a pretty good number,” he said.

“Sometimes it’s hard to have four world-class centers where it’s usually one-sided, quite expensive. One of them doesn’t play for a long, long time and it’s quite difficult.

“It’s not a position where you rotate a lot. If anyone thinks we’ve made a mistake in the transfer market, and I think Jamie Carragher already has, or whatever … there are a few reasons why we haven’t they do this job and do that job [as analyst].

“I don’t always have the solutions always before the problem.”

Speaking of Sky Sports MNF, Reds legend Carragher had simply urged Klopp to “go big” in the January transfer market to sign a defender.

And he took to Twitter Tuesday night to reiterate that he had not accused Liverpool of making a mistake in the transfer market.

He said: “Not once this season have I said that it was a mistake that Klopp didn’t buy a CB for the exact reason he claims.”
