The Reds boss was relieved to see his team fending off a kick at the point that according to him should not have been awarded.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp described the decision to award a penalty to Sheffield United on Saturday as an “injustice” as the Reds rallied to claim a 2-1 victory.
After just 11 minutes at Anfield, Fabinho was ruled to have fouled Oli McBurnie at the edge of the box and Sander Berge made no mistake from the point to give the Blades an early lead.
Despite the initial setback, the Reds fought back and tied just before halftime when Roberto Firmino scored his first goal of the season from close range.
Klopp’s team secured all three points in the 64th minute when new recruit Diogo Jota headed a cross from Sadio Mané minutes after Mohamed Salah canceled an offside goal.
Although he was full of praise for Sheffield, Klopp was quick to question the grief they were awarded and applauded his team’s desire to fight “injustice” and win.
“The penalty was not even a foul. During a season there are so many different periods, we have had an injustice and we have had to go again,” Klopp said. BBC Sport After the match.
“I love these games, as you win everything else. You win the easier games when everything goes your way on nights like this.
“We fought with McBurnie in the first half, but we changed our position and won the second balls. We were dominating 2-1 and we had really good football, but then they came back.”
“It doesn’t surprise me at all, you always have to work hard against Sheffield United. Chris Wilder is hard to accept. They never give up, I respect him so much. They go back and forth. Chris is doing a wonderful job.”
Speaking of grief for Sky sportsKlopp added: “The penalty awarded was clear, it was a challenge to win the ball. We are on the wrong side of another decision, but luckily we were able to fix that tonight, so maybe I shouldn’t talk too much about it.”
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was impressed with the Reds’ desire to defeat an opponent they have now defeated for the fourth time in a row in the Premier League.
“It was tough as expected, they are a good team working very hard. We knew it would be difficult and we are delighted to get the points,” Henderson said. Sky sports.
“McBurnie was very good in the air, so it was difficult for the guys in the back, but they managed and solved it better in the second half. We should have finished the game with another goal or two.
“I am only interested in the mentality in our dressing room and I see hunger, resistance, character to work and win if you are not playing in the best way. We show that we can go deep and see results.
