Restaurant owners across Wales say they will be forced to waste thousands of pounds on food after the Wales shutdown was brought forward on short notice.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Mark Drakeford announced a sudden level 4 lockdown in Wales that started from midnight.
All non-essential stores and gyms have closed, while the hospitality industry has been forced to close once again and only offers takeout.
The only household bubbles allowed will be for single person households joining another household. The Christmas bubble rules that allow two households to come together will apply only on Christmas Day.
Chefs across the country, who have been busy preparing for a busy Christmas season, have had their plans thwarted by this early tightening of the rules.
Michelin-starred chef James Sommerin tweeted to say that he had a refrigerator full of food during the last opening days that would go to waste.
He told WalesOnline: “The news of the closure was a huge shock and there is a lot of frustration.
“We just wish there were more advisories. A few more days’ notice would have saved people across the country a lot of money.”
“Many restaurants, cafes and others will be in the same position. Suppliers would also have asked for more stock.
“The support from our family, friends and clients has been excellent and they have supported us through this difficult year.”
Tommy Heaney, who runs a popular restaurant in Pontcanna, Cardiff, said he had 140 free roast dinners for a good home.
He tweeted: “Damn … I just finished cooking my roasts! 140 free roast dinners to good home! #emergency shutdown. ”
Earlier this month, the celebrity chef said Mark Drakeford was banned from his restaurant.
Asador 44, a popular wine and barbecue house in Spain, also took to Twitter for support.
They also said: “It may be our last day, guys with Cardiff effectively closed and not a lot of people around so come and stock up, open until 4pm today!”
