How Kate Garraway’s family and friends got together as Derek Draper battles the coronavirus

Kate Garraway has been open with her feelings as her husband Derek Draper fights for her life in the hospital.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, has withdrawn from her role in the breakfast program since her husband was hospitalized after contracting coronavirus.

Derek, 52, has been in intensive care in a medically induced coma with his family fighting for Kate as he accepts their daily battle.

His family has been eagerly waiting for good news since Derek was admitted to the hospital in late March.

Kate stayed home with her children Darcey, 14, and William, 10, and shared a sweet video of her son showing his family depicted as Lego.

In it, he showed that Dad Derek is on a pedestal in the center of the room with the family around him, including Kate and the grandparents.

This is not the only time that there has been a public show of strength for Kate during this deeply troubling time for the family.

The former I’m A Celebrity star has posted weekly videos of his Clap for Carers, which have seen many of his famous friends send kind wishes in the comments.

The videos also show the community Kate lives in as her neighbors join her in paying tribute to front-line staff on the NHS facing the Covid-19 outbreak.

The TV presenter thanked fans for their messages during this time, writing in a heartfelt Instagram post: “” I wanted to send a huge thank you to everyone who has sent me such wonderful messages that they wish Derek the best. It has meant the world to me.

“I am sorry that I was unable to answer them individually as I am sure they will understand that I am focusing on my family and Derek right now.”

She continued: “In calmer moments I am reading all of your messages and they are very comforting and wonderful to read.”

GMB presenter Ben Shepherd has expressed his support for Kate as her television family unites around her.

Talking about how Kate is consoling herself to have conversations with her husband in the hope that her words will be passed on.

Derek Draper has been fighting for his life in the hospital.

He said, “One of our colleagues, Kate Garraway, has said that one of the things that has really comforted her is the fact that the staff is picking up her phone at night and can talk to her husband.”

“She has no idea if he is responding, but it certainly gives him a sense of comfort and there is hope that it will.”

“It is an incredibly moving and personal thing to pick up that phone and be there for the families of these patients.”
