Houses shaken by ‘explosion’ after major fire on Liverpool Street

A “massive explosion” was heard as fire crews rushed to deal with a fire at an electrical unit in the early hours of this morning.

Five fire trucks were immediately on the scene after being alerted at 12:52 a.m. to reports of a fire on Carnegie Road in Tuebrook.

Residents were told to keep all windows and doors closed while firefighters used their main jets and ground monitors to deal with the fire.

The fire was said to have started in “a large network battery system container” which emergency services found very lit upon arrival.

One resident said he “heard an explosion after midnight” and another said: “There was an explosion, it shook the house.”

A spokesperson for the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Due to the smoke from the incident, residents are asked to keep their doors and windows closed and people are advised to avoid the area if possible.”

“Anyone with existing medical conditions should have medications nearby and call NHS 111 if ill effects occur.”

They say the incident continues. Police also tweeted this morning: “Police are currently dealing with an incident along Carnegie Road / Lister Drive, L13.

Roads in the area are currently closed and motorists have been asked to find an alternate route.
