This gruesome photograph shows a blood-soaked police officer helping his partner after they were shot in a brutal attack.
In the wake of the shooting, the heroine officer allegedly called for help and applied a tourniquet to her fallen colleague.
The officer, who is a mother, helped her partner despite suffering a gunshot wound to the jaw.
Both were seriously injured when a lone gunman approached their patrol car and opened fire in Compton, Los Angeles, on Saturday.
The attack was caught on closed-circuit television, and the gunman was seen fleeing the scene on foot after blowing up the vehicle.
The latest shocking image shows the 24-year-old male officer kneeling behind a pillar with his bloody hand exposed while his 31-year-old colleague stands beside him.
Fox LA reporter Bill Melugin, who acquired the photo, said: “They told me the deputy was shot in the jaw, still called on the radio for help and applied a tourniquet to the deputy’s wounds. Now both are stable. “
Officers were left fighting for their lives after the shooting, and Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva called their survival “a double miracle,” reports the New York Post.
Speaking after the shooting, he said: “This is just a grim reminder that this is dangerous work, and actions and words have consequences.
“Our job is not easier because people don’t like law enforcement.
“It angers me, it dismays me at the same time. There’s no nice way to put it.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) previously tweeted: “A male officer and female deputy were ambushed while sitting in their patrol vehicle.
“They both suffered multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition.”
Both deputies were freshmen and had been sworn in for 14 months.
In reaction to the incident, President Donald Trump retweeted the video and wrote: “Animals that must be hit hard!”
