Holly Willoughby was replaced on This Morning after her children had a coronavirus scare.
The TV host did not appear in this week’s episodes in which co-host Phillip Schofield teamed up with Davina McCall and Alison Hammond in her absence.
Since then it has emerged that Holly, 39, had to care for two of her children.
Both children became ill and showed symptoms of the deadly Covid-19, Mirror reports.
The children then had to be tested for coronavirus.
The TV star has three children, Harry, 11, Belle, Chester aged nine and five who she shares with her husband, Dan Baldwim.
Holly was also examined despite showing no symptoms.
Speaking about her family’s health scare on social media, Holly said in a statement: “I just wanted to thank you for all your kind messages …
“For the past few days, two of our children were not feeling well and had symptoms of COVID. According to government guidelines, we were waiting for test results before he could return to work, along with just wanting to care for two. kids who were bad, it meant having two days off of This Morning.
“I chose not to alert everyone to this because my focus was on taking care of them.
“Fortunately, all the tests came back negative and everyone is feeling much better.
“See you on Monday!” Holly finished, adding, “Once again thanks for all the nice messages …”
The family is said to have been given the go-ahead on Friday night, the newspaper reports, leaving Holly free to return to her day job the next week.
It comes after viewers were surprised to see a last-minute change in This Morning’s lineup this week.
Alison Hammond appeared in the studio with Phil on Wednesday leaving viewers to guess what had happened to Holly, whose absence was not mentioned.
Then when Davina McCall joined Phil on Thursday, viewers became even more suspicious.
“Still no Holly then? More and more curious. What about Holly then?”
On Friday, husband and wife duo Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford headlined the award-winning show as usual.
It comes after Holly and her family were forced to leave their Portugal vacation earlier this year in order to isolate themselves so they could re-host the ITV show in September.
The family had planned to spend seven weeks at the luxurious Quinta do Lago complex, which offers private villas with pools for a relaxing break in the sun.
However, they were forced to cut two weeks off summer vacation when travel restrictions changed at the last minute.
During the summer it was also reported that Holly left her agency YMU Entertainment to establish her own female-focused management company: Roxy Management.
The Sun reported that Holly wanted to be able to take more control and improve her “work-life balance.”
A source said: “Lockdown has given him time to reflect and think about his future.
“In many ways it has become the perfect opportunity to start over and it was time for a change.
“She is very excited to manage herself and have more say in day-to-day decisions.”
