Ropen jackman says:
Upon boarding the plane, there was a cursory verification that he had completed his landing form and had his PCR test certificate. They didn’t scrutinize them or anything, so it was really quick.
Immigration at Heathrow took much longer; probably two hours total. It’s annoying that the first bit is a pre-queue, even before entering the main immigration area, so you don’t know how long it will take. Heathrow staff were friendly and handed out water. Anyone with children can skip the line.
There was a lot of confusion in the queue about the additional requirement to reserve two PCR tests. A Heathrow staff member asked people to raise their hands if they * not * had done this. A good number of people were then brought in presumably to complete the administration (and paid £ 210 per head).
My boy from border control was really grumpy. That may even have been intentional. He reviewed the form and asked me to confirm the basic details and if I had been to any red list countries. We started off on the wrong foot when we asked where he lived in London. I said Old Street, that is, the general area, and he replied “Well, you put Sycamore Street here”, as if he had somehow exposed a possible fraud.
Border control wanted to see the receipt that you had booked the two Covid tests. They asked me about the purpose of my trip, but they didn’t ask for proof or anything like that. Still, it could have been a lot worse.
