Gers stars Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier declined to recognize the young defender after referee Don Robertson blew the whistle full time.

The footage also showed Liverpool legend Gerrard speaking to the Scotland U21 star full time, with Porteous spreading his arms and laughing in the snapshots.

However, Gerrard has revealed that Porteous had accused the Gers captain, Tavernier, of being a “sore loser”, which irritated matters.

Gerrard went on to label the Scotland U21 international as “cheap” after the flash point.

But the administrators of Hibs’ official Twitter account have made a timely post to endorse Porteous.

They wrote: “Ryan Porteous. The best young Scottish central defender there is.

“Feel free to answer if you think we are wrong.”

However, they have blatantly turned off the comments on the post, which means that no fan can disagree with their statement.

Speaking about the Porteous snub incident after the 2-2 draw in Edinburgh, Gerrard said: “I think he was saying that Tav is a sore loser, which I think is a bit cheap coming from him.

“He was sent off for a bad tackle when he lost 3-0 against us here last season.

“I don’t agree with that or with the argument.”

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard was frustrated after the Rangers lost points at Easter Road.

Drey Wright gave the hosts the lead before Alfredo Morelos tied before the break.

Scott Arfield put Gers ahead, but Christian Doidge scored the equalizer in a four-goal capital thriller.

Gerrard was unhappy with the form of goals his team conceded after seven clean sheets in a row that broke records.
