Residents in parts of Scotland are prepared for heavy and persistent rains and strong winds this weekend due to Storm Alex.
The Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, Dundee and Angus Meteorological Office has issued an amber weather advisory starting at 6pm today and will remain in place until 6am
A separate yellow alert has also been issued that began at 3am this morning and will last until 12pm Sunday.
This covers areas in Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Fife, Stirling, Moray, Scottish Borders. Edinburgh, East and West Lothian, Midlothian and Orkney, as well as those affected by the Amber Warning.
There is the possibility of potential property damage, disruption of transportation and road networks, and localized flooding.
Met Office meteorologists say: “An area of rain is expected to move into Scotland from the east on Saturday morning and persist through Sunday before clearing to the west.
“This is likely to bring a large amount of 40-70mm of rain to this area with more than 120mm possible over the high ground.”
Storm Alex, which has been hitting France for the past few days, will bring hurricane-force winds of up to 90 mph across England and Wales, with weather warnings issued for much of the country.
Transport Scotland’s main road maintenance arm will have flood patrols on standby on the A1 and A68 throughout Saturday.
The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued 11 flood alerts in Scotland.
