Heathrow Airport was evacuated after ‘suspicious item’ found in Terminal 2 generated an alert

Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 was evacuated after a “potentially suspicious item” triggered a security alert.

Several police vehicles were seen outside Terminal 2 with a crowd of passengers outside.

Travelers reported that sniffer dogs also arrived at the scene.

One Twitter user said: “Some kind of security alert at Heathrow Terminal 2- I’m not sure at this point what’s going on, but the passengers got out.”

Another wrote: “Search operations underway at Heathrow airport terminal 2 due to security alert to all passengers and staff also evacuated sniffer dogs on duty.”

While the third wrote: “Some kind of security alert at Heathrow Terminal 2- I’m not sure at this point what is happening, but the passengers have moved outside.”

Several police vehicles are at the scene.

Heathrow Airport said in a statement: “Our teams are working with the Police in response to a potentially suspicious item identified in Terminal 2.

“As a precautionary measure, the passengers have been temporarily moved out of the area.

We apologize to passengers who have been inconvenienced while the matter is being investigated. “

A crowd of masked passengers stood outside in the rain with luggage carts when the terminal was closed.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they had been called to receive reports of a suspicious article.

In a statement they said: “Police were called to Terminal 2, Heathrow, at 12.11am on Friday 2 October to receive reports of a suspicious item.

“The item is currently being investigated. The area is currently being evacuated as a precautionary measure.”
