Harry Winks has confessed that his 53-yard shout was actually a pass looking for his Tottenham teammate Gareth Bale.
The North Londoners won for the fifth straight game by beating Ludogorets 4-0.
Winks scored the third just after the hour with a diagonal strike that went through the visiting goalkeeper.
But the midfielder has been sincere and admitted that he was trying to find the Welshman, but has no problem taking the goal.
He told BT Sport: “I’d love to sit here and say I did it, but I have to be honest and say no. I saw Gaz (Gareth Bale) come in. I’ll take it at the end of the day.
“It’s been a while (since I last scored) but I’m happy with the way the team played.”
“It was really nice. We started with the right intensity because we didn’t give them a chance to breathe. It was a good match for us.”
Winks has struggled for opportunities in recent months after falling through the pecking order.
But as you push for more minutes, you realize you need to seize opportunities when they present themselves.
“It’s tough. It’s very difficult,” he added. “All I can do is play well when I have opportunities like this.”
One man who seized his opportunity was forward Carlos Vinicius who scored a double.
The Brazilian was Benfica’s summer recruit and will spend the season on loan in the capital.
His compatriot Lucas Moura then completed the scoring in the 73rd minute to keep Tottenham on track to the round of 16.
Tanguy Ndombele was the only man of the weekend to keep his place in a much-changed team, but José Mourinho was more than impressed with the substitutes.
He said: “I’m happy for them, some players had very good performances. Japhet Tanganga had his first match after a long injury, a good chance for the children to make history. 4-0 and three points, that’s good.
“I know children well. Harvey White works with us every day on our team, just like Jack Clrke, Dane Scarlett did preseason with us.
“We know what they can do, but it has to be the right time and today was the right pressure for them.”
