Actress Miriam Margolyes has sparked outrage by admitting she hoped Boris Johnson would die when he was struck down by coronavirus.
The Harry Potter star, 78, made the shocking comments in a rant on Channel 4 comedy chat show The Last Leg on Friday night.
It comes just days after the Prime Minister revealed that doctors were preparing to announce his death in case he lost his battle with the virus, as I’ve admitted he was ‘a lucky man’.
But in an incredible outburst, Margolyes told viewers: ‘I wanted him to die’.

Asked how she thinks the government have dealt with the pandemic, the star said: ‘Appallingly, of course, appallingly. It’s a disgrace, it’s a scandal. It’s a public scandal.
‘I mean, I had difficulty not wanting Boris Johnson to die. I wanted him to die. Then I thought that will reflect badly on me and I don’t want to be the sort of person that wants people to die. ‘
After admitting to her change of heart, Miriam continued with another savage remark about the prime minister.
She said: ‘So then I wanted him to get better, which he did do, he did get better. But he didn’t get better as a human being. And I really would prefer that. So, we’re in the s ** t, basically, here. ‘

Her comments sparked outrage on social media, with one person tweeting: ‘Memo to Miriam Margolyes: If your sense of morality is not drastically superior to Myra Hindley’s, you probably wanna buck your ideas up a bit.’
‘Well I think Miriam Margolyes might of just about got herself canceled on the last leg there,’ added another.
One infuriated viewer wrote: ‘I thought that #MiriamMargolyes was dead. Turns out that it’s only her brain. ‘
Another Twitter-user insisted: ‘Miriam Margolyes speaks for a handful of vile, pitiable, sub-human Remainer lefties.
‘I despise this sad old hater, she doesn’t share true British values, despite what her passport says. I hope that Karma gets each and every one of them, she is already dead to me. ‘

Margolyes has enjoyed an illustrious acting career, and is known for her roles in Call the Midwife and The Age of Innocence, as well as being Professor Sprout in the film series based on JK Rowling’s novels.
However, she is also well recognized for being outspoken on a number of big issues.
In an interview with the Guardian in 2014, she said: ‘I would have to admit that I’m daring in my comments. I do say things possibly other people don’t say. So I shouldn’t be too surprised when they are picked up. ‘
The actress also recently admitted she’s been shouting at strangers from the steps of her house in a bid to get some social interaction during lockdown.
Mr Johnson, 55, confirmed this week he was’ not in particularly brilliant shape ‘while battling the disease at St Thomas’ Hospital in central London last month.
As his chances of survival balanced on a knife-edge, he said he was given ‘liters and liters’ of oxygen as medics fought to keep him alive in intensive care.

But Mr Johnson described how the sobering experience allowed him to see the ‘fantastic’ care offered by the NHS, his voice cracking as he reflected on the rollercoaster past few weeks.
