Four men have been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Stephen Maguire this morning.

The 27-year-old was shot twice around 11:30 pm on Guildford Road, Birkdale, on March 16 when a gang raided his partner’s home and took three motorcycles.

Four men denied murder and other crimes, leading to a 15-day trial in Liverpool Crown Court.

Patrick Moogan, 35, of Willow Way, Croxteth; Karl Corson, 28, of Columbine Close, Melling; Jack Higgins, 22, of Sedgemoor Road, Norris Green; and Ryan Smith, 21, of Colquitt Street, Liverpool city center, were found guilty of murder, two counts of kidnapping, robbery and possession of a firearm and ammunition.

There were gasps in court as Judge David Aubrey, QC, told the defendants during sentencing that the starting point of their deliberations was 30 years and that he was satisfied that Corson or Smith pulled the trigger.

He says they have the same guilt.

He says he is satisfied that they both intended to kill. He says the court may be less certain about Higgins and Moogan’s intent.

Ryan Smith was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 32 years

The court had heard poignant statements from Stephen’s heartbroken family, including mother Pauline, who said: “I can never be the person I was before my son’s murder and I will spend the rest of my life in limbo, waiting to be reunited with my son. son again. “
