Pep Guardiola accepts that Manchester City was not good enough to defeat Tottenham in a 2-0 loss that saw José Mourinho lead Spurs to the top of the Premier League.
City had 22 shots and yet, thanks to a tenacious display from the team, local goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had no problems, and his most difficult save came to death to avoid Ruben Dias’s header at point-blank range.
While Guardiola’s team has a game in hand, they are now eight points behind Tottenham and have gone six league games in a row without scoring more than once.
“They are the best in the league so obviously they are more contenders than anyone at the moment,” Guardiola said of Tottenham.
“Of course there are a lot of points to play for. We are eight less but we have one game left. There are many teams ahead, so we have to start winning games or it won’t be possible. We know.
“In terms of our game we are not far behind, but we are fighting to score goals right now. It is not particularly about one person or another. That is the reality, 10 goals in nine games is not enough ”.

The visitors were denied a draw in the 27th minute when Aymeric Laporte’s effort was ruled out after it was ruled that Gabriel Jesus had controlled Rodri’s center with his arm.
Guardiola refused to be swayed as to whether Mike Dean was right to disallow the goal after using the field monitor and instead focused on his team’s defensive errors.
He added: “I didn’t see it. Honestly, I didn’t see this action.
“The valuation of the game, the statistics speak for themselves. We were better in all departments, but we conceded a goal that we cannot concede.
“We defend poorly and then we set the perfect stage for them.”
