Greater Manchester records one of the highest daily death toll from Covid-19 in six months

Another 63 people have sadly died in Greater Manchester hospitals after contracting the coronavirus, according to the latest NHS figures.

This is one of the highest daily numbers of virus-related deaths since the first wave of the pandemic six months ago.

It is the second highest number of deaths registered in the hospitals of the conurbation since April 21.

Across the region, a total of 3,220 people have lost their lives in the 28 days after contracting Covid-19 at a hospital.

A significant number of deaths were recorded in only one hospital trust, in the last 24-hour reporting period.

Another 21 people lost their lives at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, all recorded nine more deaths.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust confirmed seven more deaths, while the Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust recorded another six.

Two other deaths were recorded with the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

The total number of deaths from coronavirus in hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Saturday, November 14 is:

The government said another 462 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday, bringing the UK total to 51,766.

Separate figures released by UK statistical agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, along with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show that there have now been 67,000 Covid-19 related deaths in the UK.

The government said that, as of 9am on Saturday, there had been another 26,860 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,344,356.
