Graeme Souness believers only injury and ego could prevent Curtis Jones from becoming a key player for Liverpool.
The Reds midfielder has enjoyed a more prominent role in the first team this season as a result of the club’s injuries.
Jones was on the roster at Bramall Lane for Liverpool on Sunday when they beat Sheffield United 2-0, with an own goal from Kean Bryan that sealed the win.
After an action-packed midfield performance, Souness emphasized that Jones has all the ingredients to be a first-class player for Liverpool.
“If you’ve played the game, then you will find that this kid is full of technique, he can run the ball, he can dribble the ball, he takes the ball in tight areas and makes a switch,” Souness told Sky. Sports.
“At 20, he has the opportunity to be a real player for this club.
“He is extremely talented, the fact that he is a Scouser is a real asset to the club because they know the passion he will have for the club.”
“And as he gets older and becomes an influence in the locker room, that will spread to newcomers to the club.”
“He could play an important role in Liverpool’s future, given that he is only 20 years old and looks like home at this level.
“He has the ability, the athleticism, he seems to have the attitude and he is one of several English midfielders who have a real chance of being real players in the Premier League as long as they don’t have a big head on their shoulders.
“You hear about midfielders who describe themselves in the modern game as defensive midfielders, offensive midfielders, if you are a midfielder, you have to be prepared to do a little bit of everything.

“You should be able to score goals, and this guy, because of his technique, and you see that when he gets into tight areas he can take it and he will come out of tight areas when surrounded by people, he has wonderful technique.
“Two things that will prevent him from becoming a suitable player in the future: a big head, which I don’t think Liverpool allows, or he gets injured, God forbid.”
Liverpool are next in action on Thursday night at home to Chelsea.
