Alex Beresford has expressed his pain at not being able to be with his mother the day his grandmother died alone.
The 39-year-old Good Morning Britain meteorologist posted the heartbreaking news on Twitter and explained that due to the coronavirus blockade, he felt “trapped and powerless.”
He explained that he has not been able to comfort his mother and stepfather on the sad day for his family.
Alex wrote on Twitter: “My lovely stepmother grandmother died alone tonight! I can’t even go with my mothers to hug her or my stepfather.
“They also cannot leave the house because they are vulnerable and I doubt they will let us in to pay our respects. I feel upset, trapped, and helpless!”
Alex’s GMB co-stars sent their condolences and Susanna Reid wrote, “Oh Alex. I’m so sorry.”
Piers Morgan added: “Horrible. Sorry, buddy.”
Alex’s fellow weather host Laura Tobin wrote, “Sorry, sending love xxx.”
As presenter Charlotte Hawkins shared: “I’m sorry to hear that Alex – sending love xx”
He broke the news just an hour after sharing his thanks for the NHS volunteers who had brought the purchases to his mother.
Speaking to the camera, Alex said, “A huge thanks to all the NHS volunteers who have signed up to do the stirling job …
“My mother had one of the letters saying she had to stay indoors until June.
“So as a son, I have stepped forward, as you would, I have been going to the stores for my mother, I have been collecting her medicine weekly.
“Today I didn’t have to do that as a lovely lady, I don’t know her name, I wish I knew her name, but she delivered my mother’s medicine to her door, with a smile, happy to help.
“My mother also received one of those food packages, which surprised us with the large amount of food that was there, and it will really keep my mother running.”
