It sounds like the plot of a hit Hollywood romantic comedy: Two young teenagers sit together on the first day of school and instantly become best friends, then fall madly and deeply in love.
But for the I’m a Celebrity finalist, Giovanna, 35, and her future husband, McFly’s Tom Fletcher, that’s exactly what happened, and the couple tied the knot in an incredibly romantic wedding.
And from a host of celebrity guests to an elaborate five-tier rose-encrusted cake, not to mention Tom’s unique and poignant wedding speech, his big day was without a doubt a real-life fairy tale.
As fans of I’m A Celeb have seen, pop star Tom, 35, has been his wife’s biggest cheerleader for the past three weeks.
She has posted multiple updates on Instagram encouraging fans to back Giovanna, all while holding the fort at her home in London with her three young children.
But for any of the more than 21 million who have watched the boyband singer’s incredibly romantic wedding speech on YouTube, Tom’s total dedication to his Gi will come as no surprise.
On their 2012 wedding day, Tom surprised his new wife by turning the obligatory acknowledgments into an emotional, fun, and uplifting 14-minute song.
Performing new lyrics to a medley of hits from the McFly charts, he began, “So Giovanna can tell you that the only nerves and anxiety I’ve had about this wedding have been from giving this speech.
“I absolutely hate public speaking. Me and public speaking just don’t get along.
“Mainly because I have no idea how to write a good speech. But I do know how to write a song. So I hope this doesn’t fool me too much.”
To the tune of an old McFly hit, he then sang: “I recently had a wedding. I have married a girl who is out of this world, believe me.”
Tom then jokingly praised his “hot” sister-in-law Giorgina, offered Gi’s dad Mario a medallion for teaching him to curse in Italian, and sweetly promised that he would always wash the dishes for just one kiss from his new wife.
He also sweetly shared his hopes of one day starting a family, a wish that came true, with the couple now proud parents of six-year-old Buzz, four-year-old Buddy and two-year-old little Max.
While the speech has been watched by millions around the world, it wasn’t the only memorable part of the day for CBeebies The Baby Club host Giovanna and her new husband.
Among the guests at One Marylebone, a former Grade I listed 19th century church in London, were several famous faces. Tom’s McFly bandmates Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter, and Danny Jones acted as groomsmen, while EastEnders star Kara Tointon was Gi’s maid of honor.
Also on the guest list was Giovanna’s brother, Mario Falcone, who at the time was appearing on The Only Way Is Essex; his then girlfriend Lucy Mecklenburgh; Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton and her now husband Jesse, Rolling Stone son Ronnie Wood, and Busted star Matt Willis and his wife Emma.
Tom admitted to shedding a few tears as Giovanna walked down the hall to Over The Rainbow, played on the violin by Izzy Johnston. Now married to Harry, Tom’s McFly bandmate, Izzy is a former member of the electronic string quartet group Escala, which reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2008.
Tom also recruited the Sylvia Young Theater School Choir to provide backing vocals, having brought Gi back to drama school to propose to her the year before.
It was here, sitting on the floor for the assembly, that the two first met when they were 13 years old. Seated in alphabetical order, the two have their last names Fletcher and Falcone to thank for their first meeting.
He wrote in McFly’s memoir Untold Things … Our story of the moment they met: “This beautiful girl walked in. I immediately went to [my friend] Jason and commented on how fit he was. “
The couple briefly separated at 16 when they attended different sixth grades, but Tom got her back at 18 with a romantic letter.
Alluding to this fact in their joint best man speech, Tom’s bandmates praised the pair for being “best friends.”
“When people talk about childhood sweethearts, Tom and Gi are the genuine article,” said Harry.
“We’d like to end by saying that you two bring out the best in each other,” Danny added. “People say that opposites attract but you refute it. You really are the best of friends and that’s why we know that this true love story will last forever.”
With so many artists in attendance, Tom and Gi saved on the cost of a wedding ring by having McFly perform. But they certainly didn’t cut corners in their once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
The couple chose a fantastic five-tiered wedding cake, completely covered in handmade sugar roses in pastel colors. Sticking with the theme, Giovanna wore a huge bouquet studded with roses, which complemented her classic Phillipa Lepley ivory strapless dress with a long stele and vintage lace overlay.
But although they surely couldn’t get over their big day, it seems that Gioavanna will one day have the opportunity to relive her wedding, this time, with her children by her side.
Speaking while his wife was inside the castle, Tom said that he had been inspired by the stories of his campmate Vernon Kaye about renewing his wedding vows with his wife Tess Daly.
“Vernon has put me on it with renewing votes,” he told MailOnline. “I don’t think it can compete with his story, so I’ll have to start planning now.”
For her part, Giovanna is clearly still madly in love with Tom, reposting her wedding photos on social media on their anniversary.
She wrote of their strong bond: “I know I wear him to the wall most of the time, but the time I make him laugh I love the way his eyes crinkle and his mouth starts to drip … that funny.”
