Georgia has recertified the state’s results in the November 3 presidential election after two recounts, again confirming that Democratic President-elect Joe Biden won the state.
“It has been 34 days since the November 3 election,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, said in a press release Monday. “We have now counted the votes legally cast three times and the results remain unchanged.” He added: “Continuing to make discredited claims about a stolen election is hurting our state.
Georgia conducted a full manual recount shortly after the election, which showed Biden still leading by about 13,000 votes. Despite that manual recount, Donald Trump’s campaign requested another recount due to Biden’s narrow margin of victory.
That tally has confirmed Biden’s victory in Georgia, making the president-elect the first Democrat since Bill Clinton. to carry the state.
Shortly after that announcement was made, Trump again he lashed out at the Republican Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp. The president has repeatedly called for a special legislative session in the state to once again challenge the election results, a request that Kemp has reportedly rejected.
Raffensperger said Sunday that a special session to overturn the state’s election results “would then overturn the will of the people.”
Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, a Republican, told CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday that he did not support Trump’s call for a special legislative session.
“Calling the general assembly again at this point would be almost a solution to trying to find a problem,” Duncan said. “And we are certainly not going to move the goalposts at this point in the elections. We will continue to comply with the letter of the law, which gives us a very clear direction on how to run an election. “
The president hosted a rally in Valdosta, Georgia, on Saturday night in which he repeatedly falsely claimed that the state won. Two Georgia Republicans face a January 5 runoff that will decide control of the Senate.
“They cheated and rigged our presidential election, but we will still win it,” Trump falsely insisted. “And they will try to manipulate this [Senate] choice too “.
