George Floyd’s sister broke her silence to ask Americans to vote for the “divisive” Donald Trump to remove from office.
LaTonya Floyd told the Daily Mirror today that George, assassinated by a white police officer, said Trump ruled the “White Supremacist House.”
And calling for Joe Biden to become president, he said, “I refuse to allow my brother’s life to be taken for nothing.”
In the four months since George was killed on the knees of a white police officer, his older sister has maintained a dignified silence.
But today, just over a month before the US election, LaTonya Floyd feels compelled to speak up to warn: “If Trump is voted in for another four years, we will all go to hell.”
She will never accept the way that George, 46, died, his face pressed to the street at the corner of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, pleading in vain for his life and repeatedly telling police officer Derek Chauvin: I can’t breathe. “
His last words became a mantra of the Black Lives Matter movement.
LaTonya, 52, recalled how her brother had said that Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, ruled from the “Supremacist White House.”
And during his first presidential debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden on Tuesday, Trump’s failure to denounce the far-right Proud Boys sparked revulsion around the world, but an increase in recruits for the “hate” group.
LaTonya said: “The first presidential debate shows that he is not, and never has been, a good president.
“He actively emboldens the far right, people like the Proud Boys, whom he told to ‘hold on’ Tuesday night.
His words have consequences. People will act on them and more violence will follow. Leaders are defined by their character, by their conviction, by their willingness to do the right thing. The only character Trump cares about is himself.
“In the four years of his presidency, he has set America back for 40 years. The country is more divided now than it was in the days of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. All under his watch.
“Talk about how no president has done more for African Americans. We all know this is a lie. Even before entering the White House, he participated in a divisive campaign. Trump’s America is not united, it is divided. It has hurt more than it has healed and he is happy to continue to do so. “

The world was horrified when the video of George’s death appeared on May 25. The officer had knelt on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds until George passed out and then died.
No one was closer to George than LaTonya.
Just take a brief stroll through the Bricks neighborhood in Houston, Texas, where they grew up, to find locals like Travis “Mugz” Cain, who remember how inseparable George and LaTonya were.
He said, “Before they lived in each other’s shadows, they lived in each other’s pockets as children.”
George, known in the family by his middle name, Perry, had four half-siblings, but only his two older sisters, LaTonya and Zsa Zsa, 53, share the same parents, George and Larcenia.
So far, she has been too upset to speak, but LaTonya fears that the progress made by Black Lives Matter will unravel if Trump wins on November 3.
Pleading that his brother’s death was not in vain, he said: “Perry had Trump’s number, he would tell me how divisive he was. In his mind, Trump did not live in the White House, but he had made it the White Supremacist House. “
She blames Trump’s behavior since George’s murder for “unnecessary violence,” which neither she nor her family tolerate.
LaTonya said: “In the days after Perry died, I watched Minneapolis burn. How it was destroyed. How the problems later spread to the states. I was mad as hell over my brother’s death.
“As a family, we were consumed with so many emotions: pain, anger, pain, heartbreak, it was an endless roller coaster nightmare.
“We are not done yet.
“But while we appreciate the passion felt by so many millions of people, the destruction and violence that we saw and continue to see is not the way to go. We are better than that.
“As a family, it’s not about that; Above all, Perry wouldn’t be either. It is not the way to make a change.
“Our votes are stronger than any brick thrown, this is how we will achieve the change this country needs.”
After George’s death, Trump called the Floyd family, but LaTonya said it was nothing more than a symbolic gesture.
She said, “Why did you never condemn my brother’s death? Why did she never join the people she was chosen to keep safe on the streets afterwards?
“Not once has he joined those who suffer. Obama would have done it. George Bush would have. There is not a living president who does not, except Trump.
“Man even uses our armed forces against us. His mantra is law and order, but it is he who has wreaked havoc. “
LaTonya implored all Americans to come out and vote for Trump out of office. She said: “Joe Biden is the only candidate to restore stability to this country and prevent the rest of the world from looking at us with confusion and disdain.
“Biden is a man of substance, of values. Someone who truly cares about all Americans, Democrats or Republicans.
“Trump’s handling of Covid and his politicization of pandemic deaths says a lot about how incompetent he is.”
She hopes that George’s death brings change through Black Lives Matter. She said: “The movement is bigger than anything we’ve ever seen before. Perry’s death is going to change the world.
“I speak for my entire family when I say how much we appreciate the people in the UK who have supported us.
“To all those who have taken to the streets, who have protested in peace on behalf of Perry, we are very touched for you, we are very grateful.
“Together we can achieve change. Thinking that something terrible can come of something good is a consolation.
“I, like many of us, refuse to allow my brother’s life to be taken in vain. We all stand behind Black Lives Matter 100%. I have a life and it is important.
“Change is coming, but only if on November 3 we make the right decision.”
