A police officer charged with murder in the death of George Floyd has posted bail of $ 1 million (£ 775,000).

Derek Chauvin was released from jail Wednesday, according to court documents.

Mr. Floyd He died on May 25, and his death sparked protests around the world after pictures showing his last moments were posted online.

Chauvin was seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds, while Floyd said he couldn’t breathe.

Mr. Floyd, who was black, was handcuffed at the time while Chauvin, who is white, was kneeling over him.

Chauvin’s bond issued a non-cash bond, which was backed by the Allegheny Casualty Company, an insurance corporation.

His bond is conditional and stipulates that he cannot work in law enforcement or contact Mr. Floyd’s family. You also have to give up any firearms licenses or permits you have.

Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao have also been charged in the death alongside Chauvin.

They face aiding and abetting charges, and also posted bail, each valued at $ 750,000 (£ 580,361).

All four officers have been fired.

A trial is scheduled for March 2021, although the judge is weighing whether to try the group separately.
