George Clooney ‘ended up in the hospital’ after losing 25 pounds for his role in the Midnight Sky

George Clooney has revealed that his latest role put him in the hospital.

The Oscar-winning actor had to spend several days in medical care after losing 25 pounds to play the survivor of a global catastrophe on The Midnight Sky.

“I think I was trying too hard to lose weight quickly and was probably not taking care of myself,” the 59-year-old said.

The Hollywood heartthrob plays astronaut Augustine Lofthouse in the drama, which he also directs.

“It took me a few weeks to get better and as a director it’s not that easy because you need energy,” Clooney told The Daily Mirror.

After being rushed to the hospital four days before filming for the dystopian Netflix movie began, George was finally diagnosed with pancreatitis.

The condition may be life-threatening, however the actor was released within days.

Weight loss wasn’t the only physical change the successful producer underwent for the role.

‘He left me with a big, ugly beard and my son loved it because he hid things in it that I wouldn’t know about until I got to work and I was like,’ Oh, there’s a lollipop stuck in my beard, ‘George revealed.

“But my wife and daughter were very happy when it came out because it was very difficult to find a face under all that mess.”

George has been married to his wife Amal since 2014. The couple share twins Ella and Alexander, three.

George praised child actress Caoilinn Springall, who appears in the film after saying they had budgeted extra days to accommodate the first-time actress.

‘Every single thing we did with her was a take. I went to the other actors, “See that? One take, I don’t want to hear about your preparation,” George joked.

The film follows a lone scientist in the Arctic after a global catastrophe as he runs to contact a crew of astronauts with a warning not to return to Earth.

Midnight Sky is scheduled to release on December 23 on Netflix.
