Gary Neville has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney’s Manchester United front line will never be surpassed, not even by Liverpool’s dazzling current trio.
United lifted the national title and Champions League in 2007/08 with those three stars shooting for goals.
And Sky Sports expert Neville believes his exploits cannot be matched.
He told the Football Show: “Let’s be clear, Tevez for a year with Ronaldo and Rooney was just awesome. He was out of this world, he really was.
“Not only because of the quality of the players, there was a real selfish, horrible and unpleasant determination for those three.”
“Ronaldo in a different sense on the field as he was spinning around kicking people, teasing, pushing, he was a threat with his performance levels.”
“Rooney and Tevez were street fighters but with incredible ability.
“There was something about those three. You talk about the best three in the Premier League, the best three forwards, you will never beat those three.”
“You can talk about Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in Liverpool, I love them to pieces, and Raheem Sterling, Sergio Agüero, Leroy Sane in Manchester City.”
“But if you look at Tevez’s top three, Rooney and Ronaldo, at their peak, were out of this world.”
Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez scored 79 combined goals in all competitions in 2007/08 on their way to the league and European double.
Salah, Mane, and Firmino reached 91 in 2017/18, and will expect their stellar efforts this quarter to be rewarded with a Premier League crown.
