Gary Neville criticized Harry Maguire as “lazy and unkempt” after the Manchester United defender’s red card for England against Denmark.
Maguire’s disastrous start to the season continued when he received a second yellow card just 30 minutes after the Nations League clash at Wembley on Wednesday.
The central half pounced twice on late tackles and referee Jesús Gil Manzano had no choice but to give him his marching orders.
Maguire has been well below his best all season so far, with many speculating that the 27-year-old may have been affected after he was convicted of aggravated assault on Mykonos over the summer.
He has appealed against convictions for aggravated assault, resisting arrest and bribery following a fight with police on the Greek island in August, and is awaiting the outcome of that legal process.

Maguire was also criticized for his performance in United’s final Premier League game.
OleGunnar Solskjaer’s side was beaten 6-1 by Tottenham, meaning they have delivered 11 incredible goals in just three top flight games so far this season.
And after Maguire was sent off against Denmark, United legend Neville put the boot on the defender.
“That sums up his last 4-6 weeks,” said the former Red Devils right back. Sky sports. “Terrible time for him. I thought he was lucky with the first challenge. That was between a yellow and a red.

Things took a turn for the worse for England after Maguire was sent off, with Denmark taking the lead a few minutes later with a Christian Eriksen penalty after a defensive confusion between Jordan Pickford and Kyle Walker.
And the expulsion of Maguire led to the unfortunate Ainsley Maitland-Niles being dragged in on his England debut for Tyrone Mings to come in and regain some defensive form.
Chris Sutton said Maguire would have to “show real character” to recover from his latest setback.

“Maguire’s confidence is shattered right now and it’s horrible to see him because I think he’s a really talented footballer and a good footballer,” the former striker said. BBC Radio 5 Live.
“But this season has been unfortunate and he will have to show real character to come back.”
Meanwhile, Jamie Redknapp said Maguire needed to rediscover his confidence quickly ahead of United’s upcoming games against Newcastle, PSG, Chelsea and RB Leipzig.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder said at halftime: “It would be very easy for us to sit here, tear it apart and say ‘oh, he’s having a nightmare, he’s conceding goals.’
“He’s having a moment. He’s going through a really bad time in his career where he’s going to have to recover in some way.”
“A great weekend is coming for Manchester United.
“He must regain his confidence. He is a player who really lacks confidence.”
“A lot happens in his life. Sometimes we forget it. When you go out on the football field, you think everything is going to be fine, but you can genuinely see that he is struggling with his game right now.”
