Game of Thrones actor Hafthor Bjornsson has set a world record for deadlift by lifting 1,104 lbs (501 kg).
Bjornsson, a powerlifter who played Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the HBO sequence, broke the record at his gym in his native Iceland.
He raised the bar for 2 seconds, before releasing the weights and roaring with joy.
The occasion was broadcast by ESPN sports presenter and filmed for Bjornsson’s YouTube channel.
Measuring 2.05 m tall (6 ft 9 in), Bjornsson greeted the World’s Strongest Man competitors in 2018 in advance.
Speaking in a “behind the scenes” video posted on YouTube, Bjornsson mentioned, “I’m extremely proud, you know. I’m extremely happy.
“It is nice, there is nothing better than showing that people are not suitable. So many people did not imagine me, so many people who mentioned,” 501 kg rarely go up “… But I also had a lot of help.”
He added: “I really feel healthy, I really feel good. I’m just completely speechless, even though I’m talking a lot now. But I’m excited, tremendously excited, that’s huge for me. “
The record was previously held by Eddie Hall, a British man who in 2016 became the first man to lift 500 kg.
