GAME has added a £ 10 shipping charge to pre-orders for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S quietly.
The UK retailer added the £ 9.99 shipping charge after selling the PS5 last week, and ahead of pre-orders for the Xbox Series X / S launching this morning.
To be clear, this is a shipping charge that now applies when you pre-order a next-gen console on the GAME website. It is not a charge applied retroactively to last week’s existing PS5 pre-orders. The shipping charge also applies to Oculus Quest 2 headset pre-orders. Prior to this week, GAME was offering free delivery on console pre-orders.
Here’s a screenshot of a full PS5 pre-order from GAME secured last week (note free delivery):
Eurogamer contacted GAME yesterday about shipping costs, but has so far not responded.
Unsurprisingly, shocked customers are taking to social media to complain about the additional £ 10 they are now being forced to pay to secure an Xbox Series X and S pre-order. It appears this shipping charge is also being applied. incorrectly to pre-orders where the customer chooses to pick up their console at the store.
Since when does Game charge for delivery?

@DigitalGames Morning! I just got a pre-order for an x series, but paid an extra £ 10 shipping, despite picking it up from the store, and it says free pickup? What is that about? pic.twitter.com/8WZxy3QaQS

Game that charges £ 10 delivery on top. What a scam!

So @DigitalGame How can you justify charging £ 9.99 to pick up a pre-order at one of your stores? The exact same charge for home delivery for the #XboxSeriesX that is only being taken advantage of … pic.twitter.com/qBHuwtl4AF

Here are GAME’s current delivery options:
While GAME has yet to comment in an official capacity, company sources told Eurogamer that the shipping charge is an edict from parent company Frasers Group and came as a surprise to staff. “No one here agrees or is happy with that,” said a staff member.
GAME has had problems with pre-orders for Xbox Series X. Its website went offline in the morning as it struggled with a number of issues, including the sale of Xbox All Access. GAME and Smyths are the exclusive UK vendors of Microsoft’s monthly payment program.
