On a tense night of football, Bayern Munich beat Sevilla 2-1 in extra time to win the UEFA Super Cup.

This was only the second time Bayern managed to win the competition, but Hansi Flick’s men earned their 24th consecutive competitive victory after battling 0-1 against.

Here’s how the players rated at the Puskas Arena:

Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer – 9 – Supreme sweeping as always, playing out of his box like a child in the park. Just effortlessly good with the ball at the feet, keeping Bayern moving forward like an outfielder. Made good stops when asked, including a wonderful 1v1 save late in the game to prevent Sevilla from taking the lead, then forced an En-Neysri shot to the post with his foot in extra time. The Beast is back!

Benjamin Pavard – 7 – He missed a great opportunity in the 25th minute and struggled to deal with Ocampos in the first half, but improved in the second period and in overtime.

Niklas Sule – 6 – Dominated by De Jong for Sevilla’s first game. Excellent blocking to prevent him from scoring early in the second. A competent but clear deployment that is vulnerable to movement.

David Alaba – 5 – He conceded a penalty with a careless barge on Ivan Rakitic. Otherwise he was solid, cleaning things up and keeping Bayern moving forward.

Lucas Hernandez – 8 – An imposing presence on the left. He closes out numerous attacks by making more tackles (6) than any Bayern player.

Leon Goretzka – 7 – Excellent pressure to start the game and it tied for Bayern with a sensationally quiet finish, but it faded and was overtaken by Jordan as the game progressed.

Joshua Kimmich – 7 – Some superb passes and once Tolisso came in, he really locked up Sevilla.

Thomas Muller – 8 – I lost a fantastic opportunity to call, but it was absolutely brilliant, creating more chances than anyone. He also played a beautiful ball in preparation for the Bayern draw.

Leroy Sané – 6 – He was denied service for the most part, but when he got the ball he came to life. A goal was disallowed for a questionable foul in preparation. He was substituted in the second half.

Serge Gnabry – 6 – Very calm but worked hard in the press, winning 4 tackles.

Robert Lewandowski – 6 – I lost a great opportunity to equalize in the half hour, but then he showed spectacular technique to prepare Goretzka to really equalize. Linked with Muller to score a wonderful goal that was ruled offside. A nanny was lost in death.

Substitutes:

Corentin Tolisso (for Sané 71 ′) – 7 – It went in to add more control in the middle and did exactly that. He was always in the right place to help Bayern retain possession.

Alphonso davies (for Goretzka 99 ′) – 6 – He was desperate to unleash himself, but Bayern never made it.

Javi martinez (for Hernandez 99 ′) – 8 – The winner of the cup! After his heroic overtime draw in the 2013 Super Cup, he now has an overtime winner in the 2020 Super Cup. A powerful header punished Bono and Martinez’s mistake, possibly in their last game with Bayern, just back and has done it again!

Jerome boateng (for Alaba 112 ′) – n / A – I’m late.

Seville

Yassine Bono – 6 – He looked like a coward with the ball at his feet and seemed to find himself in strange positions, but he saved quite well and hit high crosses. An impressive display spoiled by a feeble effort to save a shot by David Alaba in extra time, allowing Martinez to win the Super Cup for Bayern. A tragic mistake that ruined his night.

Jesus Navas – 8 – A supreme performance on the right side. He looked like one of Sevilla’s best attacking threats and was incredibly solid defensively.

Diego Carlos – 7 – A total of 16 phenomenal punts by the Brazilian (and no penalties conceded!) He was constantly in the right place to clear the ball and rescue his side. He was giving a masterclass just to the point where he ignored his goalkeeper’s cry and unnecessarily threw a ball for the corner that Bayern ended up leaving. It didn’t lead directly to goal, but it did contribute and knock their score down a couple of points. Oh darling.

Jules Koundé – 8 – An absolutely tenacious display. Tackling, blocking, and punting all over the place, including a particularly sublime block from Lewandowski. Sevilla have a central duo worth more than 150 million euros and Monchi signed them for less than 50 million (Monchi, as always, gets a 10/10).

Sergio Escudero – 7 – Solid defensively (5 punts, 5 tackles) although obviously less electric than Sergio Reguilón. I lost a good opportunity in extra time.

Fernando – 7 – An obstacle in the middle of the field. He blocked center lanes and forced Bayern to widen. Well recycled possession.

Joan Jordan – 8 – The best midfielder in the park. He made more passes than any of his teammates and they were always the law happens too. He magnificently changed the game, advanced and brought the game to Bayern. I lost a great opportunity to score a goal in extra time before being substituted.

Ivan Rakitic – 6 – He won the Sevilla penalty after a great run, but that was it. A shy performance after that, without taking risks and therefore without anything interesting happening. Early suppressed.

Breasts – 4 – Atrocious. Constantly killing Sevilla’s attacks by unnecessarily exaggerating the ball.

Lucas Ocampos – 8 – At the heart of all the good that Sevilla did. He would face the entire Bayern team with the ball at his feet and usually beat two or three before becoming crowded. A truly special player disappointed by his teammates. He opened the scoring with a penalty for not looking. Seriously, A penalty for not looking!

Luuk de Jong – 6 – A battle screen on the side header. He helped win the penalty with a wonderful goal play and always seemed like a handful to Bayern’s defenders, but in the end he couldn’t do much. Early suppressed.

Substitutes:

Youssef En-Nesyri (for De Jong 56 ′) – 5 – He presented the Bayern defense with a different problem with his movement and pace. He lost an incredible 1v1 opportunity at the end of regulation time that should have won the game for Sevilla and then had a well-saved shot by Neuer. It is not his night.

Oliver Torres (for Rakitic 56 ′) – 7 – Much more alive than Rakitic. He helped Jordan take control of the midfield.

Nemanja Gudelj (for Suso 73 ′) – 6 – Hard work.

Franco Vazquez (for Jordan 94 ′) – n / A – I’m late.
