Fred has no intention of leaving Manchester United nor has he been informed that he is available for transfer, as the club prepares to announce the arrival of Donny van de Beek.
United are about to sign 23-year-old Van de Beek to a £ 40m deal with Ajax after he passed a medical examination in the Netherlands and agreed on personal terms.
Van de Beek may play at the top or bottom of midfield and, with Bruno Fernandes established as United’s playmaker, the expectation is that Van de Beek will fill the sixth role that Fred played in at the end of last season.
Despite the imminent arrival of Van de Beek and speculation surrounding a transfer to Galatasaray, the MEN understands that there has been no dialogue between Fred and United representatives on immediate plans for their future and is happy at the club.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer favored Fred over Nemanja Matic, who started 16 of the last 19 Premier League matches, in United’s Europa League quarter-finals and semi-finals against Copenhagen and Seville, and the Brazilian enjoys a warm relationship with the United manager.
27-year-old Fred joined United from Shakhtar Donetsk for £ 52m in 2018 and, after a steamy first season, was one of their standout players in 2019-20, with 39 starts. Only Harry Maguire, David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial lined up more frequently.
Fred has a contract with United until 2023 and the club has the option of an additional year. United recently tied fellow midfielders Matic and Scott McTominay on new contracts and are prepared to offer better terms to Paul Pogba. James Garner is waiting for a loan to be finalized for next season.
